I’ve been wanting to climb Merapi for a long time, and it definitely lived up to (and exceeded) all of my expectations. Yabbiekayu were amazing, and made sure everything ran seamlessly!

The hike was a lot harder than expected, and the last km down the mountain really worked those knees to the limit. But well worth the pain!!! What a majestic view, and such a great feeling of accomplishment once you reach the top.

Very highly recommended, but make sure you go prepared!

    “Amazing stay!”

This was the perfect place to stay for the beginning of our honeymoon in Indonesia. It felt private while still having the assistance of the wonderful Yabbiekayu staff to help us with every detail of our stay. The owners and staff were so welcoming, genuine and accommodating. They went out of their way to provide us with special touches-flower petals on the bed, a lovely letter with a delicious passion fruit parfait and a private breakfast brought to our bungalow. The eco resort is very unique and felt like an oasis while still getting to experience the village. The bungalow was beautiful and a comfortable place to relax. Oh, and the restaurant! Breakfast was such a treat…fresh fruit, yummy mains and cappuccino. We ate dinner there a couple of times and enjoyed our meals as well. Everything was made to order and incredibly fresh and delicious. Staying at Yabbiekayu is really an experience and I agree with other reviewers-it felt like staying with family.

    “probably too good for you”

Yabbiekayu is a village level home-stay. Activities and tours, from birding & batik to tempe making & temples, and city & market visits can all be arranged through their hospitality team, including airport connections… making it all very easy. The food is excellent, other options are available locally. If you are really lucky you can talk to Dave and learn about the difference between disaster relief, the transition back to normalness, and development aid. Dave’s focus is shelter, you can stay in the bungalows he designed and organised, and I approve the lack of paint!

Peaceful cabin embedded in a beautiful garden setting. The bungalows don’t have much insulation from sound but I was fortunate to have only one quiet neighbour. The local mosques are quite loud at times in the evening, only the sound of animals overnight and the breeze during the day. Staff are kind and the restaurant is excellent. I stayed only one night due to previously-arranged accommodations but would stay here again.

A hidden gem just outside the city of jogja. Beautiful, serene, relaxing. Excellent service from the team. Yummy food too. If you are looking for a place to relax from your busy life, look no further. This is the place you have to be.
