Prambanan Temple or Roro Jonggrang Temple is said to be the most beautiful Hindu temple in the world.
Built in 9th-century by the Mataram Kingdom, rulers of central Java and defeaters of the Sailendra Dynasty, dedicated to the Trimurti, the expression of God as the Creator (Brahma), the Preserver (Vishnu) and the Destroyer (Shiva). The temple is located in central Java, approximately 17 kilo meters northeast of the city of Yogyakarta or 20 kilometers south of Mount Merapi.
The temple become a world heritage site UNESCO. It is the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia, and one of the biggest in Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its tall and pointed architecture, typical of Hindu temple architecture, and by the towering 47-metre-high (154 ft) central building inside a large complex of individual temples.
Prambanan temple is often called Loro Jonggrang temple, locally known Roro Jonggrang as a legend in it that the 1,000th statue of the temple was the statue of a slender virgin lady named Roro Jonggrang, who turned into stone by a young and powerful man named Bandung Bondowoso after her attempt to thwart Bondowoso’s effort in building a thousand temples and two wells in one night.
It is amazing temple you must go when you visit Yogyakarta and impressive historical architectures.
